GLOBAL NUTRITION RESPONSES IN INFECTIOUS DISEASE

Monday, October 23, 2017: 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Description: This session will provide a global overview of medical nutrition therapy options and innovations in infectious diseases, with comparisons and contrasts between domestic and international programs. Priorities for medical nutrition therapy for infectious diseases that pose significant public health risk will be discussed in the context of global nutrition issues. Examples of innovative programs will be used to illustrate the role for medical nutrition intervention. The program will include an update of medications available for both HIV and hepatitis C and how they impact the nutritional status of patients. New medications for pre-exposure prophylaxis of HIV will also be discussed. Medical nutrition therapy recommendations will be discussed for both HIV and hepatitis C.
