2010-2011
The Medical Nutrition Practice Group (MNPG) is a Dietetic Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) serving over 1800 members of ADA who are committed to providing exemplary nutrition care. For over 25 years, MNPG has supported Registered Dietitians who practice in various settings including hospitals, long term care, rehabilitation centers, home health, outpatient clinics, dialysis clinics, diabetes centers, industry, and corporate wellness programs.
MNPG offers its members two sub-units: The Dietitians in Gluten Intolerance Diseases (DIGID) sub-unit for members who are interested in celiac disease and other conditions requiring a gluten-free diet and The Dietitians in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (DPM&R) sub-unit for members who are interested in the support, counseling, and education for physically impaired clientele.

- Maintained a dedicated DIGID webpage and an electronic mailing list under the control of MNPG
- Organized and conducted DIGID Reception: DIGID’s Got Talent (sponsored by General Mills Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition) featuring the Boston Improv, 16 DIGID experts and a talk by Alessio Fasano, MD
- Attendees enjoyed gluten free snacks and beverages

- Newsletter
- Published four issues of Medical Nutrition Matters with CPEUs available free to members
- Provided CPEU test questions and certificates of completion via the Web site. Continued to provide the option of obtaining CPEUs via hard copy and regular mail

- Priority session co-sponsored with DIGID: Effectiveness of the Gluten-Free Diet in Treating Leaky Gut, Schizophrenia and Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity presented by Alessio Fasano, MD, and Pam Cureton RD, LDN. Chair, Mary K Sharrett, MS, RD, LD, CNSD was the moderator for the session
- Held a joint member breakfast sponsored by Sunsweet Growers Inc., with the Women’s Health and Nutrition Education for the Public DPGs. Susan Finn, PhD, RD, FADA gave a presentation on the Healthy Eating for the Whole Family
- All members of the Executive Committee participated in the Dietetic Practice Groups & Member Interest Groups Showcase
- Chair Mary K. Sharrett, MS, RD, LD, CNSD and Chair-Elect Olga Cox RD, CDN attended the FNCE DPG Town Hall Meeting

- Contributed to the 2010 FNCE Student Stipend Program. MNPG supported three students—Wanda Nigro, Abby Rosen and Joyce Malhari.

- Member survey conducted April 2011
- Spring Executive Committee Meeting was held April 15-17, 2011, in Miami, Florida. Ten members of the EC meeting attended along with Kerry Regnier, MPH, RD, LDN Manager, and DPG/MIG/Affiliate Relations. Items discussed included a review and update of the Strategic Plan, an update of the Guiding Principles and a review of the member survey results
- Awarded the second research grant to Laura Hall, PhD, RD, Assistant Professor in the Food Science and Nutrition Department at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California.
- Contributed to the ADA Foundation
- Contributed to the Support of the ADA publication MNT Provider
- Representation at ADA’s annual Leadership Institute by Margie Ziegler, MS, RD,CDN and Pam Cureton,RD .
